Widget watch – episode 9
So it’s come to this. I’m so busy with stuff that I can’t write an essay about said stuff I am busy with. But I will! In the meantime, why don’t you learn English? I was hoping for nappy but, you know, I’m pretty chuffed about this one as well.
So, entertained? Educated? No, me either.
Actually, Becca, I do feel educated and somewhat entertained. Not by the widget, but by your post and its sequelae.
I was unfamiliar with the word “chuffed,” so I Googled:
chuff 1 v fart. 2 n one’s posterior. 3 expl usable much the same as “fuck” as a general swear word: it was all going fine until the chuffing pigs turned up. Entirely seperate to the word “chuffed” so use with care.
chuffed adj generally happy with life. You can also get away with saying you are “unchuffed” or “dischuffed” if something gets your back up. Make sure you only use this word in the correct tense and familiarise yourself with the meaning of the word “chuff” too.

I’m relieved to have avoided embarrassment by learning the difference between “chuffing” and “chuffed”–just in case. I’ve also been entertained by the spelling of “familiarise” and the use of the phrase “separate to.”
So, thanks. This was all a good deal more gratifying than “fortnight,” but it wouldn’t have occurred without it.
Will this be a regular feature? Something you do maybe at intervals. Like every other Tuesday.
If only we had an American word for that.
Alex, I’m gobsmacked that you would go to those lengths. I can’t be arsed to look at that link at the moment but I shall.
If only we had, Sarp.
~tapping chin~
Becca, I’m a bit confused. You were hoping for a baby’s diaper?
Sarpon, she *should* do this at intervals. I’d love checking it out at intermission!
(all in good fun)
Nappy’s such an excellent word. So is bumbershoot.
Both great words, but hardly interchangeable….
What, they both keep you dry.
