iPod song of the week – Black Crowes

I’m in a medical frame of mind at the moment, fasting for a fun, fun day at the hospital tomorrow. But don’t cry for me, I get sweet drugs and they release me the same day! And I’m not really fasting, I’m enjoying popsicles and jello. Mmmmm, bouillon….. But so I thought I’d use that as the jumping off point for our iPod Song of the Week.

Remember The Black Crowes? Before they became tabloid fodder due to movie star marriage (just like Remy Zero only with actual sales)? I was never that into them, actually, because they were a retro version of stuff I still listen to, so I didn’t find a real need for them in my collection. But I’ve always had a soft spot for this song. It sounds like bluesy 70’s yet somehow fresh and original at the same time. And the theme fits right into my medical motif. Only I’m not sure their drugs were as legal as the ones I’m going to get.

Anyway, have fun in my absence and don’t even think of messing with the J-Ball while I’m incapacitated on a gurney. The person accompanying me to my procedure will be equipped with my Blackberry so no funny stuff. Well, funny stuff is OK, actually. And along those lines, I was thinking: if anything should happen to me, I’d like the Top 10 Commenters to be on a reality show to determine who wins this blog. Pious B can be the hostess. It’s the least I could do since I’m missing her Birthday barbecue (they’re not serving jello). Happy birthday, Pi! Be tough but fair.

If only I could stay away from the Internets

I slept in today, as I would do every day being that I go to sleep at 2 or 3am on the average night, but it’s Sunday and so I can. Of course, as everyone must know, it’s the day of the Wimbledon final, which begins on British, five hour ahead, time. Neither Federer nor Nadal care very much about my sleeping habits and the tournament director didn’t consult me either. This is where TiVo comes in. Of course, I avoid all my news and sports feeds and hope for the best. But around a certain time, my stats started to look like the below. Sure, I could have guessed who won anyway, but it didn’t occur to me to stay away from my referer stats, even if it were humanly possible for me to do so. Oh well. It’s still a great match.

ETA: It was a fantastic match! I can’t remember the last time a Federer match went to five sets. But in the end, one guy was just more feder than the other.
