Irish, I do not but I think I got that expression from the Little House books which I adored as a kid.

My floor was actually the very first thing to be done after the demolition and I have no idea who did them because my contractor referred to him as "my floor guy." It was an easy decision as the room will now open out to the apartment which all has the same floor, a red oak. You can see it in the pictures there.

But I think you were probably kidding. :D

And ha! I can identify Brooklyn based on the fact that I grew up with a father who spoke that way. I can identify Staten Island because of Working Girl. I think I can probably get the other two as well but don't hold me to that.

Deas, I don't know what A Cask of Amontillado is but if it looks like my kitchen right now, I'm not sure I want to.

I shall breathlessly await further progress updates.

Please keep posting. The wall pictures made me think of A Cask of Amontillado.

Becca? Becca?

Are you here?

Mmmm, salt licks! Do you remember the Far Side cartoon with the young deer-children at the salt lick?
Who's doing your floors? My niece's husband has a flooring company--you can add a nice New Orleans accent if you hire him (and the usual Hispanic assistants)!
I've told this story before, but when I was in grad school, the dept. secretary told Prof Levine that a man had stopped by to see her. He did not leave his name, but he had a foreign accent. Later, after Prof L had spoken to the man, she told the secretary in mock disgust, "That was no foreign accent--he was from Brooklyn!" Secretary herself spent her youth in Joisey, so it's not like she was some southern belle who'd never heard anything close to that.
So tell me, Becca, can you identify separately a Brooklyn vs a Bronx vs a Staten Island vs a LongIsland, etc accent?
