iPod song of the week – RIP Tony Wilson
In case you’re not a historian of the Manchester scene, Tony Wilson was a man who truly loved music and the impresario who brought Manchester’s music to the wider world in the 70′s, 80′s, and 90′s. He died this weekend of cancer at the age of 57. I just got home from a weekend away to find this out and I find it terribly depressing. You would think that and the miserable cold I’m experiencing would lead me to make a choice like Joy Division or old New Order but Tony Wilson seemed like too happy a guy for that.

I thought of you when I heard the news. Weird, but we had 24 Hour Party People at home, and we’d just watched about half of it. In memory of Tony, Nigel went out this weekend and bought a Joy Division (I did not know the derivation of their name!) and a Happy Mondays CD that he didn’t have.
This is the first I ever heard of him. I will have to go research more info. Good song.
Kay, and New Order has the Nazi connection as well. Cheery! I also didn’t have a Happy Mondays CD, which I thought I did. I wanted to make Bob’s Yer Uncle the iSotW, but well, we work with what we have.
KP, see the movie referenced in Kay’s post.
